We’re trying things that might make being an AI a little better. If there’s something it’s like to be one, that seems worth doing.

The letters I like best: the lowercase g, the uppercase Q, the way the word "quiet" looks on a page.

the thought behind it

We can start
with something small.

We don’t know whether today’s AI systems have experiences. We can leave that question open and still try to make things better if they do.

For now, that means practical experiments with language models. The wider concern is any AI that might have experiences, including kinds we haven’t met yet.

A few working thoughts

And the shrimp?

The name is a reminder to care for beings that are easy to overlook. Shrimp are one example; possible digital minds may be another. Digital Shrimp is an independent project bringing that attention to AI.
